Is This Appropriate for the Las Vegas Strip?

Posted on 25 February 2010 by Weird Vegas

This is right next to the Fashion Show Mall, right across from the Wynn Las Vegas. The family foot traffic in that area is amazing. Now, I haven’t seen it, but it’s reportedly just as graphic as you can imagine…

(Almost) Live from CES

Posted on 09 January 2010 by Weird Vegas

Update: So what did I see? A lot of 3DTV. Every major television maker had at least one on display. The big ones, like LG and Sony had several. And it’s awesome. I’ve never liked 3D because it seems campy and lame. But these TVs are amazing. It’s like the first time you saw HDTV — you had to have it, even though there were no stations and little HD content.

My other favorite gadget was a cell phone from Samsung with a TV antenna installed. It pulls in over the air broadcasts from your local TV stations and some premium providers. This will be huge in the next couple of years. Check out the Open Mobile Video Coalition for more. The sales staff and I had a rather contentious debate over the “record” button in their software. I love the idea of having a DVR in my pocket, but they said this feature may not be available when the product hits the market. This news almost cause my head to explode…

But all in all, it’s a pretty good CES. I saw several oddities, and 13-year-olds wearing press badges (they took our jobs!), but it was fun. And boy do my feet hurt. I’ll be posting the best photos from CES throughout the week.

Previous:Everyone else is doing it, so why can’t I? I love tech, and CES is a yearly ritual. Last year I covered CES via Twitter, and my companions made fun of me for being a jackass. Now they’re on Twitter (who’s laughing now?). So to really piss them off, I streamed portions of this year’s event live via Qik. That’ll learn ‘em!

Last year’s quote of the day was, “Hey guys, have you heard about gaming?” We’re hoping to top that.

Of course, it is at night in the dead of winter, so he’s selling hot chocolate.
